This article discusses the proposed amendments to air quality regulations, which will impact the oil and natural gas industry. These proposed amendments are highly cost-effective and are aimed at reducing air pollution caused by oil and natural gas development. There proposals consist of four air regulations for oil and natural gas industries: a new source performance standard for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a new source performance standard for sulfur dioxide, air toxic standards, and air toxic standards in terms of natural gas transmission and storage. This proposal would cut emissions resulting from smog-forming volatile organic compounds (VOC's), air toxics such as benzene, and sulfur dioxide. The proposed amendments would also significantly reduce methane, a potent greenhouse gas. |
